USA Deaf Baseball opened the day with a convincing 13-4 victory over the Mid-Iowa All-Stars at the beautiful Moeckly Ballfield, a Field of Dreams replica site, in Polk City.
The offense wasted no time getting started, with William Chapman driving in the first two runs of the game with a first-inning double. USA continued to build its lead in the second inning as Darren Drolsbaugh and Maddox Garvey each drove in a run before Chapman added two more with a sacrifice fly.
On the mound, Maddox Garvey earned the win after striking out nine batters over five innings. Curt Anderson closed out the game with two scoreless innings in relief.
Chapman finished with a team-high four RBIs, while Garvey also contributed at the plate with two hits as Team USA opened the day with a strong all-around performance.
Several campers from Iowa Baseball Camp for the Deaf served as bat kids during the game.
